Copenhagen within 12 hours

I barely was back from my adventures in the South that I already was looking to go North.

I am an impatient human and I have a to-do list to complete. On said list, there was a promise I did with a friend to buy a cheap ticket and spend a day or two in Copenhagen. Actually, it’s a trip to way up North we’re dreaming of, but as broke individuals without car licence (you’re gonna hear this complaint a LOT, sorry) we got to start near first.

Without much hesitation, this time, I booked a return flight for two and before we knew, a week passed by. In order to catch the early flight, we spent the night at the airport, telling ourselves « We barely sleep at night so what’s difference this night is going to make? » Fools; we were complete clowns. We arrived, in the morning, barely alive and caught the first metro to Nørreport, downtown. After a huge croissant I barely managed to finish, we decided to go without a real plan and start basic and see where it’d lead us to.

We paid a visit to the famous Little Mermaid next to Kastellet, an overpacked area, just to be disappointed. It was pretty but there were loads of people and tours everywhere. Ugh. We continued to wander and soon, after several churches and a short walk along the iconic Nahavn canal, we sought calm in the Black Diamond, the modern extension of the Royal Danish Museum - if only my uni’s library was that cool, i’d have spent much more time in it even if I hate libraries.

The library’s silence allowed the lack of sleep’s effects to step in. That’s when we decided to head to Ny Carlsberg Glyptothek, hoping it’ll wake us up. But the silence of art exihibition rooms actually made it worse and even the prettiest pieces of art couldn’t keep us focused. That’s how the first free bench of the museum’s greenhouse came in handy…for a nap.

TIP : The Ny Carlsberg Glyptothek's entrance is free on Tuesdays !

After the much needed nap, we quickly were back on track, and hungry, with that. The nearest and cheapest (but still overpriced) solution to soothe our empty stomaches was a hotdog stand. Apparently, hot dogs are LE danish fast food; and I understand why: they are on a another level.

While sipping our drinks under the sun that finally decided to show up, we realized we really ran out of ideas of things to do or see. I still don’t know if it was due to our zombie state or because we’re really not not cities, but we didn’t want to roam in the city anymore. We then hopped on the bus to get to Frederiks Gardens.

Best decision ever: green green green everywhere 💚💚💚 I see green, I is happy. Pictures don’t do it justice. Even if I’m not into birds, it was the ideal place to do some birdwatching.

This last spot was probably the only one I seriously planned to see in advance: I HAD to get there at that specific time to catch the sunset, to capture that place with that specific light and mood. Maybe it has become my ritual. No matter how shitty a trip could get, if I can witness a beautiful sunset, I won’t be whiny anymore.

How about you? What’s your trip saver?
